We had 12 players available to play a very strong Wanstead. In the true spirit of rugby Wanstead loaned us a few of their players, so a full 13 a side game could be played.
The first half was very close with both teams performing well in all areas. I was really pleased and proud of our boys, the way they stood firm in the face of tough competition. Their tackling, rucking and passing was greatly improved, as was their discipline for keeping in position. Considering we have done little work on the scrum, I was pleased that we stood firm. To finish 2-0 down at half-time was a real improvement over last season.
Alas, with only 12 players, there was no rest for the boys and they quickly ran out of steam in the second half, allowing Wanstead to run away with the game. However, they kept giving it their all until the final whistle. For that they are to be commended.
