Having progressed through the group stages and winning all of their matches, and then the quarter and semi-final matches, Brentwood Under 16's found themselves in the final against worthy opponents Westcliff Reds, and defending the title of Golden Boot winners for the fourth year in a row. In a hotly contested and tense final, with support for Brentwood significantly swelled by other competing teams that day, neither side really dominated, but both played some good defensive Rugby,. The score remained at 0-0 until the last couple of minutes, when Brentwood, running downhill, were awarded a penalty within the Westcliff 10 metre line. A decision was made to go for the posts, and a drop goal was scored by our kicker who displayed nerves of steel in the final play, Brentwood retaining the title for the fifth year in a row by the narrowest of margins.
Our thanks go to the 15 teams who entered and competed, and particular note to our Barbarians Team, made up from a number of our U15's who played extremely well, despite virtually no training together previously. A credit to the club, and coaches Jerry Shouksmith and Ian Hollingsworth. Well done Guys!
Thanks also, as always, to the family of Andy Joselyn, after whom this tournament is now held, for their attendance and support at the event!
Finally, a mention to all the Parents and helpers for their hard work and commitment on the day. Without them, this event would not have been nearly so successful.
