Match Report for Thurrock
The U13's second league match of the season was another tough
game against strong opponents from Thurrock. This was a match
that could easily have been a lot closer and the scoreline isn’t
a fair reflection on the tightness of the game nor the strength
of the Thurrock team. The first half was a very closely contested
affair with some good defence and both sides looking more than
capable of scoring tries. The half finished with the score line
10 - 7 in favour of Brentwood. The Brentwood boys stuck to their
game plan for the second half and had the advantage of playing
downhill. With the forwards demonstrating some excellent rucking
and support play, they were securing very good ball for the backs
which gave Brentwood the opportunity to run in a further 3 tries
making the final score 27 -7.
Well done to all the boys for some entertaining and well disciplined
rugby. The tackling and handling was first class and hopefully
the boys can maintain this standard in the weeks ahead.
Match report for Westcombe Park
The Stags travelled down to Orpington for their fixture against
Westcombe Park and Brentwood had 2 new boys starting a game for
the first time in Rory Hannell and James Croxon. As we expected,
Westcombe Park were a very well drilled side and Brentwood were
immediately on the back foot. However, some excellent defence
from Centres Louis Mayo and Charlie Noble ensured that Brentwood
would make Westcombe Park work hard for their scores. The team
battled for the first 10 mins before the powerfull runners from
W Park eventually started to find some gaps and ran in 3 very
good first half tries.
Brentwood continued to tackle well with Tom Melvin, Jack Mellor
and new boy James Croxon all putting in strong tackles. Brentwood
eventually lost their structure as Park began to dominate with
some strong runs from their powerful centre. The new look front
row had struggled in the first half but eventually managed to
gell and secured some scrum ball. It was from this that James
Croxon displayed a searing turn of pace to out flank the Park
backline and open his account for Brentwood. He followed this
up with another long distance try following good work from Brentwood
Skipper, Billy Summerfield.
The game finished with Brentwood looking for their third try and
this character was encouraging as they refused to give in. Westcombe
Park were well worth their victory and played some very good attacking
rugby that was too much for the Stags, although the boys can take
spirit from the way they ended the game. It was an enjoyable fixture
for boys and parents and thanks to our hosts at Westcombe Park.
